” Everyday in Rou and the Saumur region was such a genuine surprise. The great wine and vinyard discoveries, we did expect but so many other fantastic experiences we did not see coming. The people are incredibly warm whereever you go and particularly our hosts at Rou Libre, Jean-Philip & Michéle – quel endroit incroyable, c’est bien sur ! ”

The perfect vacation

From start to finish, the rental of Jean-Philippe’s gite was a pleasure. A rural location, quiet and charming, yet within 5 mins drive of Saumur, it provided us with the perfect stop over on our trip through France. Wonderful history coupled with modern conveniences awaits you. The caves, the wine press, the stories from Jean-Philippe on how the building was previously owned by his family and painstakingly refurbished. The pool was first class… heated, clean and with showers close by. The rooms, spacious and with modern appliances. There really was nothing we could fault about our stay other than it was too short. Jean-Philippe and his wife – the perfect hosts in a lovely part of France. They provided lots of recommendations about where to take our kids (check out the local bio-zoo close by – a wonderful day out!). Many thanks and we’ll be back again!
Charming and relaxing

We stayed here with our two teenage daughters. The apartment was comfy, charming, relaxing and very clean. The owners were very helpful and attentive on our arrival but otherwise respected our privacy. Bed linen, towels etc were of good quality. Beds were comfortable. Very good facilities. Swimming pool was immaculate and warm. There was a games room equipped with an assortment of activities which occupied us on wet days. A bbq was available as well as an authentic old fashioned oven to cook bread. There are also a selection of locals wines that can be purchased. We ordered breakfast first morning which offered lots of choice but thereafter we went self-catering to avail of lazy lie-ins and the trill of buying croissants from the local bakery. I would recommend a family stay h
Outstanding facility, comfortable and a great place on the edges of Saumur.

We stayed at En Rou Libre a year as Jean-Philippe & Michelle were just getting the estate up and running. What a difference a year has made upon choosing to return once more – and on this occasion bring some friends. Our room – a converted stable was comfortable, with modern refurbishment (as with the rest of the estate). There were architechtual and modern touches everywhere combined with a respectful treatment of the 500 year old cavs to the early 19th/early 20th Century parts of the complex that reflect the early days of the Gerard family. The superb outdoor areas are something to experience, and we had privacy also when we needed it. Most impressive though is the modernization of the whole property around some genuinely historic aspects. Then there was the newly installed, heated swimming pool which we enjoyed most days; Jean-Phillipe and Michele were their usual wonderful hosts, and throughout our stay we were only minutes away from our next horse & buggy wine tour or a fabulous restaurant. Would we return? Most definitely. The place and the setting are unique.
